Patients who we see with sinus problems have often been given medications to "see if it will help" with their sinus problems. Years ago this was really the only option, but as diagnostic techniques have improved, we are much better at determining what is actually causing sinus problems and use treatments tailored to those causes.
Over the years, we have invested in state-of-the-art equipment so we can reach a diagnosis in our office quickly and efficiently. We want to get you on the path to recovery as quickly as possible.
Our in-clinic diagnostic tests include endoscopic exams, allergy testing, and low-dose CT scans. Each of these tests gives us different information about your nose, sinuses and allergies. These tests help us diagnose what may be causing your symptoms. Based on the results, we will recommend allergy treatment, medications, surgery or some combination of all three. Surgery is reserved only for patients for whom medications and allergy treatments have been ineffective. Should it become necessary, Dr. Atkins will perform as minimally invasive procedure as possible. As a leading practitioner, researcher, and developer of Balloon Sinus Surgery, Dr. Atkins has extensive experience in this technique. Although not all patients are a candidate for Balloon Sinus Surgery, it is always Dr. Atkins' preference to use it whenever possible because it is minimally invasive, saves normal tissue, and allows patients to return to their normal activities faster.
